Open Question: HELP! need career advice?

I'm a 21 year old guy who needs to know what profession would best suit him!

As a kid I LOVED lego, literally lived for that shit. I loved video games and they took over lego as I got older. I was really good with the computer, definitely more knowledgable than most.

I'm definitely introverted and spend a lot of time by myself nowadays but in high school and for the first few years of university I spent a lot of my time around people. Now I prefer to avoid superficial hang outs but definitely enjoy a good intellectual conversation. I appear as quiet but really I just don't enjoy small talk.

In high school I did really well in everything but was definitely drawn to science. However, my favourite class was construction tech! Where we built stuff like tables, bookshelves, etc.. out of wood. I should add that I've dreamt of building a car since I was quite young (too bad my high school didn't have an autoshop... :( ).

I went to university a very sheltered youngster with much to learn and so I'm in my 3rd year now with no plans to go back for a fourth year (I'm behind in my credits and my marks have suffered - still no F's or D's though). I've studied general science and a lot of psychology in addition to some history, religion, marketing and philosophy courses. I see no future in this though, and a general degree is pretty much worthless in this day and age...

I plan to travel for a year and then go back to school. Right now I'm considering mechanical/automotive engineering or some type of trade... I really do love science but I don't like the traditional (and outdated) teaching style of university... Plus I'd much rather have an emphatically "hands on" job. So... what do I do? If I go with a trade, what trade?

I should add that I am quite intelligent and creative (not to sell myself too hard :p). I'm usually good at whatever I do. I have vision and I often see ideas/patterns in things that others do not. I also have very good writing and problem solving skills.

I would need to be my own boss, or work in an environment where I have a lot of freedom.

I want to invent things. I want to have knowledge of the theory behind building, for example, an engine but I also want to physically build that engine. Is this doable??

SO! With all this information I pray that there is at least one kind sage who would enlighten me with their awesome wisdom. I believe in following your heart but an unbiased opinion would be must appreciated.

Thank you for reading,
Peace and love to all

Additional info about me:
- I'm a born and raised Canadian but I have come to understand the world in a way more characteristic of Eastern culture. I am seeking enlightenment, things like meditation, yoga, martial arts, healthy lifestyle etc...
- I don't enjoy western culture or society... seems very shallow and materialistic.
- I partied a lot when I was younger but now I regard alcohol as almost poisonous (I have taken advanced classes in physiology, drugs, neuroscience etc... so not an uninformed view) and getting ridiculously hammered and acting like a douche has kind of gotten really old.
- I love to read and I LOVE to learn. I actively follow global politics and love research history, politics, economics, religion.
- My dream home would be a house designed by me (I would also design and build the furniture), on a farm. I'd like the farm to be pretty much fruits, vegetables, herbs etc... mostly just to sustain my family but possibly for income as well.
- If I was retired with money I would spend my days building/restoring cars, motorcycles, any machine/automotive I could get my hands on. I would also have a wood/metal shop where I could build almost anything I desired.
- Some of my heroes: Ron Paul, Steve Jobs, Mahutma Ghandi... Creative minds and freedom fighters.
