In movies , people meditate and they go inside their mind and talk to themselves to learn more about themselves. Is this real or is it bogus. Is meditation just a way to calm down?

Resolved Question: What's going on with my recent meditation experiences?
As of recent during my meditation (normal techniques focusing on my "third eye" area) I experience this feeling like energy is rushing up through the inner most part of my legs up through the center of my lower back. Once in deep meditation this energy pushes out of my chest it feels like it seeps out and envelops me. It feels like every bit of energy in me is pushing out and every muscle in my body becomes extremely tense and begins to twitch. Except the energy never seems to pass my upper chest area. Is this some type of Kundalini awakening? (I can almost instantly cause this effect)
